MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Less than 24 hours into the new year, the city of Milwaukee has recorded its first homicide of 2023.
Police say a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in a triple shooting late Sunday night.
It happened near 32nd and Villard just after 11 p.m.
A 16-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were also shot.
The teenager was taken to a hospital and the adult victim ran away, but eventually called for help and was taken to the hospital. Police later arrested him.
Amid the violence, many in the community say they're hoping for a reduction in gun violence in 2023.
"Hire more police or do something, because right now innocent people are dying for no reason," said Milwaukee resident Renee Wiliams. "For Milwaukee, it needs to get better. With all the killing and all the stuff going on, it's just so sad, because that could have been my son, you know? It could have been my son."
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or P3 Tips.
