Top prospects talk about excitement, nerves on NFL Draft red carpet
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Many fans are hoping their teams' draft picks will lead them to a Super Bowl title. But it's also a life-changing night for the players themselves.
More than a dozen of the top prospects walked the red carpet before the draft. There, they talked about their emotions on the verge of hearing their name announced on the draft stage.
Inside Lambeau Field there was a lot of flash and a lot of glamour, but also plenty of nerves and a lot of appreciation for the moment.
We caught up with some of the top players as they made their way to the draft arena.
Thousands of fans from every team were there for a glimpse at the next potential superstar.
Players were introduced to the crowd, then they walked the green artificial turf carpet, talking to media members along the way.
The prevailing emotion was excitement.
Most of these players have already played on college football's biggest stages, but they said this moment was different.
Guard Tyler Booker was drafted twelfth overall by Dallas Cowboys. A short time earlier, he told us, "I'm super excited. It's something I've been dreaming of my whole life. It's funny, my whole life the draft has been in New York. I was like, 'Ok guys, we're only going to have to drive an hour down the street.' But now it's in Green Bay, and it's better than anything I could have imagined."
Running Back Ashton Jeanty told us getting drafted was "One of my biggest dreams. I've always watched this since I was a young kid, so it's an amazing opportunity to be here." Jeanty was picked sixth overall by the Las Vegas Raiders.
And offensive tackle Will Campbell said, "You think about it. People tell you about it that have experienced it, but you know, you try to prepare yourself and think you know what you're going to feel like, but you really don't know until I feel like you get that call and actually experience it." Campbell went fourth overall to the New England Patriots.
And Lambeau Field played a big part in making the moment feel historic
Jeanty told us, "I can see why people love this place so much. I can tell there's great energy here on game day. But also just this experience, you know, to be on the field is dope."
Campbell said, "I think whenever you think of football and you ask a random fan to name five stadiums, Lambeau is on that list. So a lot of history here."
And Booker told us, "To be in a venue so historic, that has a lot of history, where the game has grown so much, it's just truly a blessing to be here."
