WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) — A new park and playground is set to open in Wauwatosa later this month, and it will include a very special piece of public art.

Firefly Grove Park, off N. 116th St. in Wauwatosa, is currently under construction and set to open May 28.

"We knew we had to do something really big and exciting when we found out the city was building a new park," said Beth Gleesing, the tourism specialist for the City of Wauwatosa.

A 24-and-a-half-foot tall troll will be one of the main attractions.

"They're unique, and when you see it, you'll understand," Gleesing said.

The park will be the home of Wisconsin's first Thomas Dambo sculpture.

"He considers himself a recycle artist, and he builds unique, whimsical troll sculptures out of recycled materials," Gleesing said.

There are more than 100 of Dambo's trolls across the globe.

Wauwatosa's Tourism Commission funded the sculpture with hotel tax dollars.

The Danish artist will assemble the sculpture out of wood.

"It's made of trees that come from Wauwatosa's urban forest, and she'll have a story to tell," Gleesing explained.

The troll will be installed next to the new playground, which is focused on nature elements.

"The community asked for a park that's highly accessible, they asked for multi-generational play components, and they asked for additional bike and ped facilities," said Alex Krutsch, the parks and forestry supervisor for the City of Wauwatosa.

Another highlight at the park is a new bicycle pump track, the only one in southeastern Wisconsin.

"It really can be an all-wheeled park, so any recreational vehicle that's non-motorized can use it," Krutsch explained.

The city expects the space - and the troll - to bring tourists to 'Tosa.

"Thomas Dambo trolls inspire travel," Gleesing said.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Firefly Grove Park on May 28.
