MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After making the NCAA West First Round, UWM's Natalie Block will now compete in the NCAA Championship meet.
The Franklin native finished 10th overall in the 400m hurdles with another program-record time of 57.02. She will now be one of 24 athletes running in the event on Thursday, June 6th at 9:30p.m. CT.
Block is the first Panthers women's track athlete to make the championships since Samia Taylor made it in the triple jump in 2011. Overall, she is only the third women's athlete in UWM's history as a D-1 program. Block is the first Panther to advance to the championships since 2017. She nearly was a multi-event qualifier but finished 16th overall in the West Region in the 100m hurdles.
Block will have a chance at first team All-American status and a national title at the championship meet. If she makes it out of the 400m semifinals as one of the top-8 times, the finals will be on Saturday, June 8th at 5:57 p.m.CT in Eugene.
The championship meet from Wednesday-Friday can been seen on ESPN2 and championship Saturday is on ESPN.
