VA Adaptive Sports and Arts MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded $70,000 to Central Cross-Country Skiing Inc., a Madison nonprofit that runs an adaptive cross country skiing program, the VA announced in a Monday, Oct. 19 press release.
The grant is part of $16 million awarded to 91 organizations throughout the country for adaptive sports programs for veterans and active-duty service members.
The VA says the programs offer competitive and recreational activities such as archery, skiing, cycling, wheelchair softball, hunting and fishing. Since the Adaptive Sports Grant Program began, the VA says it has awarded more than $150 million.
Milwaukee VA Medical Center Executive Director Jim McLain said in the press release that the grants strengthen "access to adaptive sports programs that make a meaningful difference in the lives of Wisconsin Veterans."
