Waukesha family without a home after Christmas morning fire
CBS 58 WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Christmas morning fire left a Waukesha family homeless and heartbroken.
"It happened all so fast," said neighbor, Julio Cisneros. "I mean I was freaking out."
When neighbor Julio Cisneros was driving back to his home on Christmas morning along Lombardi Way, he saw massive flames and heavy smoke pouring through the neighborhood.
"I see big smoke and I'm like, 'something is burning.' And then we get closer and it looks like that could be our house," he said.
When he got a closer look, he realized it wasn’t his home that was on fire, but his next door neighbors and immediately called 911.
"I'm not really someone to be emotional, but I definitely got emotional then in that moment, especially with it being Christmas," said Cisneros.
"It's kind of sad to see our neighbors house burn away."
The Waukesha Fire Department says everyone in the home was able to get out. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"The smoke was just like huge and then it definitely spread and like covered the whole street," said Cisneros. "At one point, I would be standing like 30 feet away and you could feel the heat and everything. It was just crazy."
The home is a total loss, with the flames destroying several cars in the driveway.
The Waukesha community is stepping up, raising thousands of dollars through GoFundMe to help the owner who says they lost everything they worked for.
"I hope the community donates so much more because I mean if you look at it, it's just very sad to see," said Cisneros.
The Waukesha Fire Department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
