WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A hometown animal rescue got a recent influx of dogs and is hoping the community will lend them a hand.

"We have dogs of all different ages, shapes and sizes. All different activity levels," HAWS Mobile Adoption Lead Johanna Schmanski said.

"So, if you're looking for a great hiking partner, we've got that for you. If you're looking for a couch potato, we definitely have that for you."

The no-kill, open-admission facility is focused on the health and safety of animals to give them a second chance at life.

"We help communities, not only our own local community but communities nationwide, by supporting other areas that might be inundated with animals or overpopulated. So, we bring animals in situations like that, we also bring animals in disaster relief situations," Schmanski explained.

Every month, HAWS receives pets from other shelters while also accepting local surrenders. Right now, they have over 40 adoptable dogs that need someone to love them forever.

"So, we got a transport earlier this week. We had transports earlier in the months, several times," Schmanski said. "So, we just have an abundance and are looking for good adopters."

From puppies to seniors, many canines are ready for someone to commit to them.

"All sorts of lovely, lovely candidates. So, if you're looking, now is a wonderful time to get the pick of the litter," Schmanski said.

"But you also make a place by adopting for us to help other animals that are in need."

HAWS has dogs, cats, and small animals up for adoption. All pets adopted are spayed and neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. For more information on how to adopt, visit their website.
