WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) - The Whitefish Bay Police Department is alerting parents after a 10-year-old child reported a suspicious encounter involving a 19-year-old man.

The encounter happened on Saturday, May 30, near Henry Clay Street and Berkeley Boulevard.

Police say the child reported that while riding his bicycle on a sidewalk, an unknown white man approached him wearing all black clothing and asked if he wanted a gift.

The child went on to say the individual then reached out toward him.

Police say the child immediately rode away from the area and reported the incident to his parents, who contact the Whitefish Bay Police Department.

No physical contact was reported, and the child is not injured. 

The Whitefish Bay Police Department encourages residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. 

Parents are also encouraged to discuss personal safety with their children, including the importance of avoiding contact with strangers, trusting their instincts, and immediately reporting suspicious behavior to a trusted adult.
