Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association receives $75K grant from Dick's Sporting Goods

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin athletes living with disabilities are getting a big surprise in the form of a massive check.

The Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association (WASA) is one of 75 groups around the country getting grants from Dick's Sporting Goods.

Dick's presented the check right before a wheelchair basketball practice.

The funds will go toward an accessible vehicle used to bring young athletes to practices, games and their homes.

"The kids absolutely do not like missing a practice or an opportunity so even when Dick's presented this check, I could see some of those kids where we currently have to provide transportation just light up like a Christmas bulb," said Melissa Oberst, board president of WASA.

WASA Board President Melissa Oberst said the van will give parents peace of mind knowing their kids can get to practice safely.
