CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS 58) -- The center of the political universe is in Chicago as the Democratic National Convention (DNC) formally kicked off Monday, Aug. 19.
Thousands of delegates and high-profile Democrats have come together at the United Center to formally nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as their party's presidential candidate.
Through the week, each day will feature a different theme and each night's keynote address will showcase a heavy hitter. That includes President Joe Biden, who will take the stage Tuesday night.
President Biden will be followed by former President Barack Obama, vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, and finally, presidential nominee Kamala Harris to close out the DNC on Thursday.
Monday morning started with a breakfast at McCormick Place. Walz popped into the event and thanked his neighbors for the effort and commitment.
Governor Tony Evers also spoke to the crowd, and other speakers included Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
