MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With an extreme cold watch expected to go into effect late Thursday night, Jan. 22, through Saturday morning, Jan. 24, people in Milwaukee are getting ready for the frigid temps.

Experts said to find shelter this weekend with lows nearing -10 degrees and wind chills as cold as -40 degrees that could cause frostbite in just a matter of minutes.

"If you can stay inside, stay inside. I will be inside," said Rhea Riley of Milwaukee. "Not excited."

Jose Gil, who was visiting the area from Chicago, said being over-prepared is better than the alternative.

"It's gonna be something else, I think people should be prepared, be safe, blankets in the vehicle, everything you need to survive out there so be careful," Gil said.

Others recommended bundling up in many layers.

"Scarf, hat, face mask, everything you need," said Jeremy Wallace of Milwaukee. "Double gloves, I double my gloves up."

But just remember, it could always be worse.

"I'm in Rhinelander and our predicted temperature is -26!" said Judy Conlin. "And we'll add the wind onto that so you're still warmer than we are."
