WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Christmas spirit was on full display Wednesday afternoon at a Kohl's store in Waukesha.
That's where 25 students got a chance to go shopping like they've seldom shopped before.
They call it the Holiday Happiness Shopping Spree. The students chosen all come from La Casa de Esperanza School in Waukesha. They're from disadvantaged families and they were paired with volunteers, and each got to pick $150 worth of merchandise.
The children could pick anything they wanted, and in many cases, they chose items that were not for themselves.
"Volunteers will experience them saying, oh, I want to buy something for my mom, my grandma, my cousins, my siblings, you know, and for them to have a new pair of boots or a candle for their parents, or their mom or their dad -- so these kids are very, very giving."
SHARP Literacy worked with Quad to make this shopping spree possible.
