34-year-old woman arrested for 2nd OWI offense in Racine, car stopped in I-94 traffic

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) --  The Racine County Sheriff's Office arrested a 34-year-old Milwaukee woman on Friday morning, Nov. 12, for her 2nd OWI offense after authorities found her vehicle crashed and stopped in the middle of traffic in the southbound lanes of I-94 near 7 Mile Road.

Authorities report that at 03:35 a.m. Friday, the Racine County Sheriff's Office received a call from a citizen reporting there was a vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic.

Reports indicate that Racine County Sheriff deputies later located the vehicle, they immediately shut down several lanes of traffic to ensure the safety of anyone within the vehicle, the safety of any oncoming vehicles, and the safety of the responding deputies.

The female driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Parios D. Cornett of Milwaukee, was found slumped over behind the steering wheel; her foot was on the brake; the vehicle was in gear; the engine was running; and the doors were locked.

Officials say that the deputies attempted to wake the operator by knocking on the windows, but the female did not respond.

Racine County Sheriff Office stated that the deputies, fearing the driver was having a medical emergency, coupled with the car being stopped in traffic during poor weather conditions, broke the rear window of the car and unlocked the doors.

Authorities say the deputies were able to wake the operator, move her vehicle out of traffic, and safely walk her to the shoulder.

Additionally, reports show that while responding authorities were speaking with Cornett, the deputies observed numerous indicators of impairment.

Racine County Sheriff's Office stated that Cornett failed a field sobriety test and was then arrested for Operating while Intoxicated 2nd Offense.

Officials reportedly transported Cornett to the Racine County Jail where she also received a citation for Stopping/Standing on a Highway.

No additional information on this case is available at this time.
