MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Four teens have been charged in connection with a series of crimes that led to an officer-involved shooting and the death of an unborn child.

This shooting happened on I-43 near Keefe Avenue Thursday, June 20 following a police pursuit and armed robbery investigation.

A criminal complaint names 17-year-old Calveyon Adonte Jeans, 18-year-old Ashley Zakia Patterson, 18-year-old Semira Dean, and 17-year-old Tyrone Rogers as suspects who attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint.

The attempted robbery occurred on June 20 in a parking lot on North Broadway Street. The victim told investigators she was approached by two males and a female. One of the males was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and demanded her keys. The victim refused to give her keys and fought off the suspects before they drove aways.

After that robbery was unsuccessful, the complaint states the group successfully robbed someone else two blocks away on East Clybourn Street.

Investigators say the vehicle spotted at both of the armed robbery scenes was a white Chevy SUV, which had been stolen earlier in the month from a McDonald's on Capitol Drive.

Later that afternoon, officers spotted the white SUV and attempted a traffic stop. The criminal complaint says the suspects initially pulled over but then took off, initiating the pursuit. The chase ended when the suspects drove into a construction zone on I-43 near Burleigh.

Officers reportedly opened fire after the vehicle reversed toward them, striking Jeans and Patterson. Both suspects were treated for gunshot wounds on the scene. Patterson was carrying an unborn baby who did not survive.

Court documents state a firearm was recovered from the suspect vehicle. The gun was later determined to be a stolen weapon that belonged to a Waukesha County deputy. It had been stolen from the deputy's personal vehicle back in September of 2023 on Brady Street.

The complaint also details statements taken from each teen except Patterson, admitting involvement in the armed robberies. It says Jeans admitted to traveling 80 miles per hour, weaving in and out of traffic, and then driving in a construction zone. It also states that before the police chase, the teens sold the vehicle from the second armed robbery for $200 and some marijuana to a marijuana dealer near the area of North 17th and West Kinley Streets.

A statement from Dean included details about their group being called the "Crash Out Dummies." Dean stated that they would rob people and steal vehicles in downtown Milwaukee. Dean also stated to investigators that "she generally steals vehicles to buyers expecting them."

Each teen faces charges including armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent.
