61-year-old man dead, identified after being struck by county bus in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim of a fatal bus accident as 61-year-old George Kayser of Wauwatosa. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Greenfield police say a 61-year-old man is dead after being struck by Milwaukee County Transit System  (MCTS) bus. 

Police responded to the incident near South 56th Street and West Forest Home Avenue, on Saturday, Nov. 22, around 6:49 p.m. 

Upon arrival, the first officer located the victim in the roadway with a significant head injury.

First responders transported the man to Froedtert Hospital, where he died. 

The investigation determined the victim had been struck by a Milwaukee County Transit Bus, as he it was traveling eastbound on West Forest Home Avenue.

The driver of the transit bus, a 55-year-old Milwaukee man, was uninjured. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

There were no reports of injuries from passengers on the bus. 

MCTS released a statement on the accident, saying in part:

"We at Milwaukee County Transit System extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends who lost their loved one and all who are impacted by the tragic incident Saturday evening...MCTS is cooperating with law enforcement and conducting its own internal investigation. As part of MCTS’s standard protocol, the operator is currently on leave following this incident. Support resources are being offered to the employee, including the Employee Assistance Program. Again, MCTS offers our sincere condolences to all those who are impacted by this tragic incident."

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with the reconstructing the accident scene. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Greenfield Police Department.
