WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man is in critical condition after being shot by officers following a five hour stand-off incident near Interstate 94 and Highway 67 on Tuesday.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office says a woman involved in the incident is in stable condition. K9 dog Officer Justice was stabbed by the woman, but has since been released from an emergency vet.

Authorities say the incident started when a Department of Resources warden tried to pull over a stolen car in the Town of Eagle.
The car did not comply and a chase started on Highway 67. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office says the DNR officer then called for assistance.

Tire deflation devices were used.

As the car approached I-94, a Waukesha Sheriff’s deputy saw a person in the car point a gun out of the window. The deputy then shot at the suspect. The car stopped on Highway 67 on the I-94 overpass.

Authorities say the suspects in the car did not listen to deputies’ directions.

The man then called the dispatch center and demanded to speak to a negotiator. According to the sheriff’s department, the man barricaded himself in the vehicle and said he was holding a woman hostage.

The Tactical Enforcement Unit then responded to the scene. Authorities say the man refused to surrender after a lengthy negotiation process.

After five hours, tactical gas was deployed into the car and the man got out of the car with the woman at gunpoint. As the man ran with the gun pointed at the woman, two tactical officers shot at the man, hitting him multiple times.

Authorities say the woman then continued to run and did not comply with officer’s orders to surrender.

The woman was taken into custody with a struggle, authorities say that’s when she stabbed the K9 dog officer.

The man was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition. The female was also taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
