MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There is cutting edge research toward a possible treatment for COVID-19 going on right here in the Milwaukee area.
This week, a grant of almost $400,000 was announced for the Versiti Blood Research Institute. Versiti is testing a treatment that takes plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 and uses it to treat people who are sick.
Versiti's chief medical officer said they are looking for plasma donors to help them determine if the treatment works.
"It's very important that you've had the virus test, the coronavirus test to show that you actually had this respiratory condition called COVID-19. Additionally it's very important that you've recovered from the infection, 'cause we don't want you coming and donating if you're still gonna infect other people," said Dr. thomas Abshire, Chief Medical Officer at Versiti.
