Wrapping up June in a warm, humid, and slightly stormy way
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Starting this weekend, the eviction moratorium will end.
With the deadline fast approaching, officials say the city of Milwaukee is seeing a surge in the number of people reaching out for help.
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge tells CBS 58 in June, more than 1.5 million people in Milwaukee have requested rental assistance.
Secretary Fudge is reminding all Wisconsinites struggling with rent due to the pandemic that resources are still out there to help.
"You can call HUD, you can go on our website, you can call your landlord, they have your information. If you are a homeowner, you can call your mortgage servicer," Fudge said.
Fudge also says she's working to address the affordable housing crisis.
Part of President Biden's infrastructure plan would build over 2 million low-income housing units in the US.
