Former Milwaukee principal convicted of fourth OWI sentenced to 2 years in prison
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A former school principal in Milwaukee delivered a powerful testament to the dangers of alcoholism at her sentencing Monday, for drunk driving.
Blaire Busack, once a principal at Milwaukee's Institute of Technology and Academics, was sentenced to two years in prison with six years of extended supervision for her fourth OWI offense and trying to elude officers.
"I have been through that wringer," Busack said. "I have lost everything."
The incident happened in Washington County last year. Before Busack's sentence was handed down, she spoke at length about her struggle with alcoholism, which she says cost her a lot more than her career.
"Strained my relationships with my parents and siblings, caused my husband Adam's death, a near divorce from my current husband, Mike, I lost trust from my daughter, and ultimately my marital life, through a suicide attempt. It saddens me to think that I obviously thought that I couldn't live without alcohol even though it was destroying my life."
Busack said she's now been sober for 14 months.
The judge congratulated her but said her offenses require prison time.
