Afternoon Update:

As of 1pm Milwaukee has now reached 98 degrees. This ties today's record high set back in 1947. Five minute observations out of Mitchell Intl Airport have touched 99.... so reaching the century mark here in the city looks pretty likely and of course heat index values are already over 110 in some spots!

The heat is here. A rare excessive heat warning starts at 10 AM Wednesday morning and goes until 9 PM for everyone. For most of southeast Wisconsin the excessive heat warning has now been expanded until 7 PM Thursday evening. For a few of our northeast counties like Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Ozaukee and Washington Counties the warning will end Wednesday evening and likely gets replaced by a heat advisory for Thursday.

The heat is still on track. In fact, temperatures both Wednesday and Thursday continue to trend warmer. Wednesday is now up to 101* for a high temperature and Thursday is at 96*. The record high for Wednesday is on track to be broken and we will keep a close eye on the record warmest low for Thursday morning and Thursday's highs but with the current forecast both of those records would be safe.

In addition to the heat, it will also be extremely humid Wednesday and Thursday with peak dew points reaching the middle to upper 70s. Even Wednesday morning we are already seeing dew points around 75* with more humidity on the way the rest of the day. Friday is still going to be a very muggy day with rain chances but humidity should drop for the weekend.

When you add all of the humidity to high temps in the upper 90s and low 100s for Wednesday you will start to see heat index values reach well into the 100s. Most of southeast Wisconsin will see peak heat index values between 110*-120* Wednesday afternoon. Feels like temps on Thursday will range from 100-110*.
