Extreme cold warning issued for dangerous cold through Tuesday
The bitter and dangerous cold is here and doesn't go anywhere for another 48 hours. A cold weather advisory remains in effect all day Monday through midnight Monday night for all of southeast Wisconsin.
That advisory gets upgraded at midnight to an extreme cold warning for northern and western counties including Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Dodge, Washington, Ozaukee and Jefferson Counties until noon on Tuesday. The rest of southeast Wisconsin remains under a cold weather advisory.
Wind chills Monday morning got close to -30 degrees in some areas and doesn't warm much more than the teens below-zero in the afternoon. Tuesday morning will be the coldest, which is the reason for the extreme cold warning, with wind chills as cold as -35. Wednesday morning gets a little better but still cold with wind chills to -20 then warms into the single digits above-zero in the afternoon.
When it comes to high temperatures we see them stay in the single digits barely above-zero Monday and Tuesday but some locations may stay closer to zero or even below-zero. The dangerous cold ends by Wednesday afternoon with highs reaching the 20s through Friday.
The breeze will remain the next few days with wind gusts to 20 mph Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. After a cold west wind to start the week we see the wind shift to the southwest Wednesday trying to bring in a touch of warmth.
