MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- You may have heard of Comic Con. On Monday, Milwaukee County held its first-ever Urban AgCon in celebration of Urban Agriculture Day.
The conference brought together local leaders, farmers, researchers, and community members to share knowledge and innovative approaches to urban agriculture.
Many experts stressed the importance of people learning to grow their own food, even in urban spaces like Milwaukee.
"Urban ag is a desperate need that we have - to get food out to people, to teach people to grow their own food. We have a lot of experts here who do some alternative growing methods to really showcase, even if you're in a small space, that there's still options for you to produce your own food," said Ellen Colby, founding farmer, MARM Farm.
The conference focused on several key topics including urban farm operations and management, community engagement and education, and sustainable food systems and supply chains.
