First human case of West Nile this year reported in Wisconsin

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Department of Health Services says that the first human case of West Nile has been reported in Dane County. The resident has a confirmed case.

According to Wisconsin DHS the majority of West Nile humans cases happen in August and September, but the risk of catching the illness happens anytime mosquitoes are out. 

In 2017, 51 human cases of West Nile Virus were reported in Wisconsin which was the highest number since 2012.
