MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A community pioneer received a prestigious honor Monday night.
The Legacy Gala recognizes men and women who have made an impact for people in poverty.
Ben Johnson received the Don Sykes Legacy Award. Johnson was the first African American Common Council president. He created the $1 house program, which made home ownership possible for many families in Milwaukee.
Reflecting on his career tonight, Johnson says one project he's most proud of is the development of Halyard Park.
CBS 58's Amanda Porterfield emceed the Legacy Gala.
