Hometown students pitch meditation garden project for LUMIN school's Granville Lutheran campus
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At LUMIN school's Granville Lutheran campus, nearly 30 middle school students had the chance to apply their knowledge to a real-life project that's in the works.
As part of the Opportunity Academy program, six teams of students pitched their ideas for a brand-new meditation garden on the school's grounds.
The program is meant to allow students to express their individual creativity all while collaborating with their peers to work toward a practical goal.
"There's a place for everyone in construction, so our scholars had the chance to learn about those different jobs, this semester actually applying what they've learned," said La'Ketta Caldwell, the director of Opportunity Academy.
"It was kind of nerve-wracking as someone who has stage fright it's a bit nerve-wracking, but once you get comfortable and get in the flow of things, it feels really good to present in front of people like that," said 8th grader Christalin Hopkins.
The winning pitch will be announced coming up Friday, Feb. 20 at a student pep rally.
