Lake Express hosts bike drive at Milwaukee terminal

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Lake Express Ferry kicked off its annual bike drive on Friday, April 26 at the Lake Express Terminal, located at 2330 S. Lincoln Memorial Drive.

The event runs until Friday at noon with the goal of supporting Dream Bikes and Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers.

Participants donating a gently used bicycle will receive a complimentary round-trip passenger ticket on the ferry, with the first 500 donors being eligible for this reward.

Donors must bring their bikes directly to the terminal, and certificates will be mailed to them, valid for any 2024 sailing date with required reservations made by June 28. The program limits one certificate per person or household.

Distributions of the donated bikes for Sixteenth Street will take place during its Bike Day event on June 15 at Kosciuszko Park.

The ferry service noted in a press release that they have facilitated the donation of over 8,000 bicycles since 2010, impacting communities in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago and beyond.
