NOW: Marcus Theatres around WI show 1989 film ’Major League’ featuring Bob Uecker

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- This weekend, fans are getting to see a younger Bob Uecker on the big screen. Marcus Theatres around Wisconsin are showing the movie 'Major League' which premiered over 35 years ago with Uecker portraying a play-by-play announcer.

CBS 58 found Brewers fans grabbing snacks and heading back in time to 1989 when this movie first came out and ticket prices were under $5.

"We've rolled back prices very reminiscent of when the movie first came out in 1989, and so prices are $5.40. Why $5.40? Because Bob Uecker had 54 seasons with Brewers radio broadcasting," said Pamela Henson, director of media and communications for Marcus Theatres.

"It's a great deal. It's another reason to be out here tonight to honor Ueck. Price didn't matter either way I think my buddy and I were planning on coming out anyway and doing this and having a good time," said Ryan Dreyer, Brewers fan.

Fans showed up in Brewers merch at Majestic Cinema for one of several showings Friday, some proudly wearing the name Uecker, and looking forward to their favorite lines from the comedy.

"I think my favorite Uecker line in this movie is when he says, 'the post-game show is brought to you by, aw, Christ I can't find it, the hell with it,'" said Craig Hudy, Brewers fan.

Craig Hudy's a 20-year season ticket holder who's seen 'Major League' several times, and admits he got a little emotional when he learned Mr. Baseball had passed away.

"Normally I don't get that choked up for not a family member passing, but he kind of, he's kind of been there the whole time," said Hudy.

While Hudy can quote nearly every line of the film, for others, this is their first time to see it. Jonathan Zalewski was born after the film made its debut.

"Rest in peace Bob Uecker. He is a Milwaukee legend and he'll forever be remembered," said Jonathan Zalewski, Brewers fan.

Marcus is committed to showing 'Major League' all weekend at every theatre in the Milwaukee area and could continue to keep it on the roster if fans continue to show up.

"Marcus policy if you come, we'll keep playing it. And so, get out there, enjoy the memories of Bob Uecker. It's a fun film," said Henson.

A portion of the ticket sales are going to the Brewers Foundation.
