MIAD students show off work, from products to packaging and paintings
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Whether students focus on graphic design, product creation or packaging, the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) has the capstone projects on display for the public to see. The Senior Exhibition has 180 unique exhibits that show how students are solving real-world problems while using empathy and creativity to do it.
"Some of the problems that you’ll see being solved through these exhibitions include how to pick up litter in your own community, period products, so for individuals of all gender identities, as well as cookbooks geared at young learners," said Monica Miller, the director of galleries and community engagement at MIAD.
"These themes, they’re very representative of the generation that we’re seeing right now. This generation of young 20-something’s that are looking at our world and wanting to have an impact on it."
Many students will leave MIAD with jobs, prototypes and other opportunities.
Tatiana Osburn's reductive wood cut helped her land a prestigious artist-in-residence at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
Her piece, 'Solace in my Pews of Devotion,' is meant to normalize the feelings of grief and loss for people.
"I think that’s probably the best thing this piece has done for me is connect me with strangers, and we’re connected through grief, through loss, through the love," said Osburn.
You can see all of these exhibits for free at MIAD through May 10.
