Milwaukee Public Museum highlights rainforest, butterfly exhibits as part of 'Greatest Hits' celebration
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Anyone who's ever sold their house and moved to a new one has at least a little sense of what life is like at the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) this year.
They're packing the exhibits for next year's move to a new museum building while showing off the old "house" for those who want to see it, maybe for the last time.
MPM is holding a series of "Greatest Hits" celebrations highlighting some of the most popular exhibits. Thursday was opening day for the rainforest exhibit and butterfly exhibit. Their Greatest Hits celebrations will run for four weeks.
We asked Museum Communications Director Madeline Anderson how visitors are reacting to what could be their last trips to the old museum.
"You know, I think it's bittersweet, right?" Anderson said. "They love this museum and so they're excited to celebrate with us and come the last few times that this museum is open. But of course, they're also sad that this place will eventually close."
Anderson reminds us that there will be new butterfly and rainforest exhibits when the new Nature and Culture Museum of Wisconsin opens next year.
The current museum closes on Jan. 4, 2027.
