Mount Pleasant Police: 15-year-old arrested after driving drunk on wrong way of highway with infant in car
MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Several teenagers were arrested or issued citations following a traffic stop in Mount Pleasant on Sunday.
Police received a report of a reckless driver that was swerving all over the road and operating on the wrong side of the highway in the area of Meachem Road and County Highway KR.
Officers responded and conducted a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Racine Street.
During the investigation, it was determined that the 15-year-old driver was intoxicated. Officers located bottles of Corona beer and a bottle of Bacardi Rum inside the vehicle.
The 15 year old driver failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was apprehended for OWI 1st with a passenger under the age of 16. He was then released to his parents in accordance with Racine County Human Services.
During the traffic stop, an infant was located inside the vehicle with her mother. The 18-year-old mother, later identified as Adela Villarreal-Tellez, was found to be highly intoxicated and taken into custody for outstanding warrants. Child Neglect charges have been referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office.
The infant was turned over to her grandparents.
Officers also contacted South Shore Rescue to respond for an additional passenger that was highly intoxicated and vomiting. The passenger was later released to her parents along with a citation for underage drinking.
The names of those who are underage will not be released.
