MPM showcases Milwaukee's Chinese American history during living legacy exhibit

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A special exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Library recently opened to the public for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

It features two historical markers honoring the legacy of Milwaukee's early Chinese immigrant population.

On Sunday, May 17, the community was invited to step inside the "Chinese Room" and learn more about Milwaukee's Chinese American history.

The reception, put on by the Organization of Chinese Americans-Wisconsin Chapter, featured poetry reading, personal and historical narratives from OCA members, and a screening of a documentary on Milwaukee's Chinese immigrant history.

"I think we opened some doors to people that may have not told their stories and we want to continue that storytelling that you are able to reflect on where you came from," said )____________

The "Historic Markers, Living Legacy Exhibit" is open to the public now until June 24.
