MU's new Shaka Smart making a big first impression

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Newly-named Marquette University head basketball coach, Shaka Smart, certainly knows how to make a first impression.

Less than a month after being hired, Smart has revamped the Golden Eagles roster adding five new players to the mix. That includes Brookfield Central's four-start forward, David Joplin, and two division one transfers. All of this while coaching the current players and getting settled here in Milwaukee.

"You can kind of allow anxiety to creep into that or you can be OK with the fact that some things are still in flux. Some things are still up in the air. The best thing you can do is really own the opportunity you have in front of you in the present," Smart said.

The biggest question facing the Golden Eagles now is whether leading scorer and Big East freshman forward Dawson Garcia will come back to campus or go pro. He has until mid-July to decide.
