Pewaukee Papa Murphy's creates #6 fundraiser meal for local teen fighting cancer
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The community continues to rally around Connor Wilkum, a Waukesha North High School senior who is recovering after undergoing brain surgery and being diagnosed with brain cancer.
"We are all very proud of him and he's just a strong guy," said Jenayah Brown, Connor's cousin. "He's very strong for what happened and everything he is going through."
Brown, who's grown up alongside Connor, has been working at Papa Murphy's in Pewaukee for around 5 years. Now, she and the business are stepping up to help.
"I just want to let him know that we all love him, and we care for him, and we are going to try our best to set up this deal for him," said Brown.
Known as number six on the field at Waukesha North High School, the restaurant created the #6 Connor Meal. Each purchase donates six dollars to Connor's fight against cancer.
"Anything helps," said Brown. "What the family is going through right now is really hard and if we can make a difference for Connor and the Wilkums, we will."
His family says he's slowly making progress and is taking his recovery one step at a time.
"We've been praying a lot for him and just doing little things," said Brown. "We just are really hoping for a really good recovery with him and definitely finish out his senior year strong."
His community is making sure he knows he is not alone along the way.
"We are trying the best we can, just to support the family and whatever they need," said Brown."
The fundraiser will continue through June only at the at Papa Murphy's in Pewaukee location on Silvernail Road.
There are more fundraisers being planned for Connor, including one at the Culvers on Grandview Boulevard in Waukesha next Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
