Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly explains decision to endorse Kamala Harris for president

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly, a former Republican turned Independent, explained his decision to publicly endorse Democrat Kamala Harris for president.

"I know that I won't agree with all the policies of Vice President Harris, I haven't agreed with her policies," Mayor Reilly said. "But for me, this is a crossroads."

Reilly hosted a press call on zoom Friday morning, calling Donald Trump unfit to be president and accusing him of encouraging the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"Even though you may have never ever voted Democrat in your life, I think this is one of those times when you need to vote for the Democrat for our president. We need to do it to save our country."

Reilly said that the Jan. 6 attack in 2021 was the event that led him to turn him away from the Republican Party.

Reilly leads the biggest city in the so-called WOW counties, which once were reliably Republican territory.
