WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- West Allis is in the running to be named "Strongest Town" in North America.
The city made it to the top 16 and you can vote to push them into the next round.
"Strong Towns" is a nonprofit that provides resources aimed at helping overcome challenges. West Allis is going up against big competitors -- including Chicago and Spokane.
Two other Wisconsin cities are also in the running, Madison and Sheboygan.
CBS 58 talked to West Allis Mayor Dan Devine about what sets the city apart. He pointed to the strong community action after last August's historic flooding.
"Neighbors got to know one another, took care of one another, the elected officials were out trying to help, our public works, our engineering. There's a genuineness that I don't see in some other parts of the world," Mayor Devine said.
The mayor also noted the resiliency of West Allis over a long period of time as it bounces back from Allis-Chalmers shutting down in 1999.
