Did you know the SS Edmund Fitzgerald was the largest ship launched at its time and was a record-setting vessel having moved 40 billion pounds of iron ore over its 17-year life starting in the late 1950s. It was also commissioned by Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company and named after the president and chairman of the board.
