WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Attorney General Josh Kaul hosted a news conference in Waukesha Monday afternoon, along with members from local schools and law enforcement.
Their goal was to raise awareness of some of the ways the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) works to protect kids in our digital world.
The known threats that are being monitored are cyberbullying, exposure to child sexual abuse material, and as Kaul explains, "sextortion."
"That's a form of sexual exploitation where the offender threatens to release compromising material of the victim unless the victim provides something additional in return," AG Kaul said.
"Kids learn best when they're not afraid," said Trish Kiplin, director of the Office of School Safety. "Kids learn best when they're not anxious at school, and we want kids to be able to focus on academics and on their positive social relationships."
If students need a way to report bullying or threats of violence, police recommend using the Speak Up, Speak Out hotline.
