MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is celebrating the launch of Spirit Airlines new nonstop flight from Milwaukee to Los Angeles.

With a Hollywood-theme, lucky travelers were welcomed with a red carpet, popcorn and Shirley Temple cocktails to mark the beginning of the flight Thursday, May 8, at MKE. 

No other airline at MKE is offering nonstop flights all the way to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Twice a week, flights will take off from MKE to LAX. 

Along with the new nonstop flight, Spirit Airlines is also starting a low-fare service to Baltimore and Nashville this week. 

"By choosing to fly from Milwaukee, travelers can support expansion of more nonstop flights from our city," said Airport Director Brian Dranzik. "These new flights to Los Angeles, Baltimore and Nashville give Milwaukee-area travelers yet another reason to choose MKE for their travel." 

The new flights will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft. All flights are available for booking here or the Spirit Airlines mobile app.
