'My eyes welled up with tears': Tribute Tournament held in honor of young boy who died in tragic 2024 accident

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Soccer games were played in honor of a little boy who died in a tragic accident on Nov. 21, 2024 this weekend. 

Nikolai Hanson was just 8 years old when he was accidently hit by his family's car as he waited at a bus stop in River Hills. 

Nikolai would have turned 10 last Friday. 

In his honor, five soccer games were played this weekend.

Nikolai's mom, Natalie, told CBS 58 friends, family and soccer players who played with Nikolai showed up to remember her son. 

"Especially when I came and I saw the banner, my eyes welled up with tears," she said. "I wouldn't be able to get through this without the support of the community so it really warms my heart that people want to remember honor Nikolai just like my family wants to."

The 'Tribute Tournament' was also in support of the Bavarian Soccer Club Scholarship Fund.
