Racine & Me: Play Way Workshop with Dr. Amy Cook

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dr. Amy Cook Workshop the Wisconsin Humane Society is excited to be hosting an exclusive seminar this spring. It’s a 2-day workshop being held May 17th & 18th with Certified Dog Behaviorist and author Dr. Amy Cook – who has been training dogs for over 30 years. The Play Way is Dr. Amy Cook’s method of helping shy and fearful dogs overcome these issues to live a happier, less-stressed life. Rather than focusing mainly on food, as many do when working with these dogs, Amy has established a more nuanced rehabilitation process that revolves around personal, social play. She believes play is a much more reliable method of judging a dog’s true behavioral thresholds, while being equally effective at supporting a dog to make emotional change.

Play is both an indicator of stress and an intervention for stress! Whether your pup is shy, reactive on leash, or fearful in the world, this seminar can help owners strengthen the relationship with their dog, reduce stress, and be happier overall. In this seminar you will learn: • How to identify stress in dogs • How to read a dog so you know what to do and when • Use play in the rehabilitation of stress & anxiety • And valuable approaches to soothe fearful dogs The workshop takes place at the Greater Racine Kennel Club on 6 Mile Road from 9am-5pm on May 17th & 18th. Early bird registration pricing runs through January 31st, so be sure to sign up right away! You can find a bunch more information, and register for this amazing opportunity, on our website wihumane.org – there’s a link right there on the home page.
