Racine & Me: 'The Drowsy Chaperone' at the Racine Theatre Guild
RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- “The Drowsy Chaperone” is a toe-tapping tribute to the love of musical theatre and a laugh-a-minute crowd pleaser running Friday, July 18 through Sunday, July 27 at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Avenue, Racine. Dust off a favorite record, place a needle in a groove, and settle into a cozy armchair as the audience is transported to the world of an imaginary 1928 musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
It’s a trip down one obsessed fan’s memories of all things Golden Age musical. His small, dingy apartment transforms into the setting for a big, extravagant wedding, packed with mistaken identities, larger-than-life characters, madcap hijinks, and flashy dance numbers on the way to the altar.
Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, music and lyrics are by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison with the book written by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and is licensed through Music Theatre International.
The cast features Tom Aldridge as the Man in Chair as the show unfolds around him with Victoria Vollman as Mrs. Tottendale, Garrett Stibb as Underling, Thomas Otto Minkowski as Robert Martin, Jay DeWees as George, Davidson Kane as Feldzig, Ashton Friedenberg as Kitty, Edson Melendez as Aldolpho, Alanna Sawall as Janet Van De Graaff, Vanessa Schroeder-Weber as the Drowsy Chaperone, Monica Fegans as Trix the Aviatrix, plus Ronan Kosterman and Carter Nuciforo as Gangsters. The ensemble features Timmy Truchon, Juliana Garcia-Malacara, Serena Vasquez, and Josh DeWees.
Sponsored by Gary and Mary Sue Langendorf, “The Drowsy Chaperone” is directed by Robert Kroes and choreographed by Kara Ernst-Schalk, plus supported by a crew of costumers, set builders, technicians, and production members. Performances take place Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (62 and above), and $17 for students (21 and under) and can be purchased from the Racine Theatre Guild by calling (262) 633-4218, visiting www.racinetheatre.org, or stopping by the box office weekdays from 12 to 6 p.m. and 90 minutes prior to each performance.
