BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Not a ruff day at the office.

On National Rescue Dog Day, MLG Capital got to meet their sponsor puppies.

"They're small. They're playful. There's a big one, Mooney, he seems to be the big brother of them all," Jade Hendricks, an Investor Relations Associate at MLG Capital, said.

MLG Capital, a real estate investment company in Brookfield, committed to covering the costs of the litter's medical and care costs.

"There's plenty of dogs out there that just need homes," Craig Christian, a Senior Financial Accountant at MLG Capital, said.

The litter of almost 12-week-old, mixed breed puppies was rescued by JR's Pups-N-Stuff. They're among the more than 100 dogs waiting to be adopted from the shelter.

"They're all great dogs and they need a chance," JR's Pups-N-Stuff Founder Jean Rhoten said.

Rhoten takes in animals from all over the Midwest.

On average, a dog is with her for three weeks before getting adopted, but some stay as long as six years.

"As much as it breaks your heart to let them go, everything explodes emotionally, as far as, seeing them find their forever home," Rhoten said.

People interested in adopting a pet from JR's Pups-N-Stuff can visit their website and fill out an application.

It could take as long as two weeks, because the application includes a background check, vet check, landlord check and home visit.

Approved applications are good for one year. People are encouraged to fill one out as soon as they know they want to adopt, so they don't miss out on taking a pup home.
