Rain has transitioned to snow along with plenty of wind
Afternoon update: The rain has been replaced with snow showers across the area. This will continue through about sunset before ending. Here's a look at the rainfall amounts from this system:
Now take a look at the current radar: As you can see it's all snow now! Also note all the alerts across the state. For us we now have the Wind Advisory underway. That runs until midnight. Current wind gusts are well over 30mph in many spots and could gust into that 40mph range right into the first part of the night. Parallel to this is the dropping temps down to the freezing mark now, and eventually 20s this evening. This will lead to wind chills in the teens this evening and overnight. While most of the snow melts, we could certainly have some slick spots tonight.Steady rain fell most of Tuesday night then became more scattered Wednesday morning. The scattered showers will likely continue the rest of the morning hours before mixing and eventually switching to snow by Wednesday afternoon.
Snow will likely accumulate for most of southeast Wisconsin but because of all the rain, most roadways will stay mainly slushy. Highest snow accumulation is likely in our northwest counties like Dodge and Fond du Lac where over 2" is possible. The rest of southeast Wisconsin will likely see 1-2" of slushy, wet snow.
As the snow comes down, the wind will start to ramp up as well. Wind gusts to 30 mph are expected during the day Wednesday but really pick up Wednesday evening through Wednesday night. A Wind Advisory has been issued for all of southeast Wisconsin from 2 PM Wednesday through midnight Wednesday night.
The strongest wind will be at night when gusts to 45 mph are possible. The wind will stay elevated most of Thursday with gusts to 30 mph before lightening up on Friday.
